An oily safflower variety with excellent oil composition
Annual plants
Very deep vest roots (120-150 cm)
Plant height 100-180 cm (with inflorescences)
Drought resistant
Resistant to frost (kills at -7 °C)
Upper leaves without spines
A long day plants
Each branch ends in an inflorescence
The flowers are usually yellow (more or less dark) or pinkish yellow
Tax themselves
The seeds are whitish, pearlescent, small
The weight of 1000 seeds are 28-44 g
The seeds contain 9-10% water and more than 40% oil
An oil rich in unsaturated fatty acids,
The oil contains almost exclusively linoleic acid (74-76%) and oleic (13%-16%), without linolenic acid
The oil is rich in vitamins C and K
It grows well in neutral or weakly alkaline soils, where it can take deep roots
Possible cultivation technology:
Soil preparation: Deep plowing (30-40 cm) or combined cultivation. The soil should be loose so that the roots can penetrate well and take water from the deeper layers.
Seed bed: quite smooth, homogeneous at least 4-6 cm (fairly easy to reach).
Fertilization: background 250-350 kg/ha superphosphate, 80-120 kg N (urea or ammonium nitrate) before sowing.
Sowing: with pneumatic seeders. The goal is to get 40-45 plants/m 2 using 50-55 seeds/m 2, corresponding to 14-24 kg of seeds (depending on the weight of 1000 seeds).
Distance between rows: 30-35 cm.
Distance along the row: 5.0-6.5 cm.
Depth: 2-3 cm.
Rolling: before sowing, if the soil is too soft, and after sowing in all other cases.
Harvesting: suitable for wheat harvester, properly adjusted, max. humidity 9-10%.
Under different growing conditions than those found in these studies, cultivar parameters may differ from those given here
SOWING RATE
Recommended sowing rate: 14-24 kg/ha (depending on the weight of 1000 seeds). The goal is to get 40-45 plants/m 2 when sowing 50-55 seeds/m 2. Sowing depth 2-3 cm, row spacing 30-35 cm, distance between plants in a row 5.0-6.5 cm
