An annual form of white-flowered barberry, derived from a biennial population by further breeding and individual selection and mixing of selected offspring
Roots - the taproot penetrates deep into the soil
The stem is straight, reaches 150 cm and more
The leaves are small, trifoliate, the edges are cut
The flowers are white, inflorescences on a short stem
Seeds - in a single-seeded yellow/yellow-brown pod, sometimes the pods are greenish
The weight of 1000 seeds are 1.8-2.3 g
An annual form that flowers and ripens seeds in the first year of sowing
Grows well in less fertile or infertile soils, does not tolerate wetlands and very heavy soils
Used as a fodder plant, as well as improving infertile soil, it is perfect for green manuring
Appreciated by beekeepers
Freshly cut young plants or silage are used as fodder
The feed contains the flavoring substance coumarin, so the cattle have to get used to it
Can grow alone as a monoculture or in mixtures with other legumes and grasses
If grown for seed, must be grown in better conditions with sufficient pollinators
Under different growing conditions than those found in these studies, cultivar parameters may differ from those given here.
SOWING RATE
Recommended seeding rate: 20-30 kg/ha. When growing as a seed, the seed rate should be increased to 30 kg/ha
Recommended sowing rate for green fertilizer: 25-35 kg/ha
